Q. Since my MacBook Pro only has one jack for Input and Output, how can I monitor what I'm recording?

A. You have to set GarageBand's preferences to use your computer's speakers rather than the Line-OUT.

Open GarageBand's preferences, click the Audio MIDI tab, and select Built-In from the Output PopUp menu. If you want to do both recording with the line-IN as well as monitor through the headphone jack (which you can't), you'll need an audio interface
