Q. How do I split up an Audio or MIDI region in a GarageBand track?

A. Select the region(s) you wish to work with and drag the playhead to the position in which you want to divide the region(s) in two. Select the "Split" menuItem from the Edit menu and the region(s) will be cut into two parts at the point of the split.
The Split command works across any number of tracks with selected regions.
